Kelli Suzanne McSpadden, 52, Rigby, Idaho, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2026.
Kelli was born on April 18, 1974, to Ethel May Christensen and Jimmie Neil McSpadden. She was the seventh child in a large and loving family. She spent her early childhood in Dubois, Idaho, then Rupert, Idaho, and then her family settled in Shelley, Idaho. Kelli graduated from Firth High School in 1992 where she excelled as a standout athlete in basketball, volleyball, and track. Those who watched her play remember not only her talent but also her determination, competitive spirit, and love of being part of a team. Kelli also spent one semester at BYU-I (Ricks College).
She married Kent Whitehead on March 19,1998, and together they welcomed their beloved daughter, Kendra Paige Whitehead, who became the greatest joy of Kelli’s life.
Kelli spent much of her life working in the food and beverage service industry, a profession that perfectly matched her gift for connecting with people. She became a trusted friend, a listening ear, and a familiar face to countless people over the years. Whether someone came in to celebrate life’s happiest moments or to escape the hardest of life’s moments, Kelli had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel seen, welcomed, and important.
To know Kelli was to know kindness in action. She had a rare gift for making people feel like family. She had an extraordinary way of loving people individually and completely. She never met a stranger, only someone she hadn’t yet welcomed into her circle. Her generosity also knew few limits now matter what the situation was. Her loyalty was unwavering and she was always there if you were hurting. She didn’t wait to be asked. She simply showed up. She celebrated graduations and quietly carried burdens that weren’t her own because that’s who she was. She mourned alongside friends who lost, sat with those grieving loved ones, held fundraisers for friends who lost family members, celebrated victories both big and small, and made room in her heart for anyone who needed someone to believe in them. She listened without judgment, loved unconditionally, and gave without expecting anything in return.
Kelli leaves behind a legacy that cannot be measured by accomplishments alone, but by the lives she touched. Her warmth, compassion, loyalty, laughter, and unwavering presence changed people. The empty space left by her passing is a testament to just how deeply she was loved. Though our hearts are broken with her passing, we find comfort in knowing that the kindness Kelli poured into the world lives on in every life she touched. She taught us that showing up matters and that listening is an act of love.
She is survived by her daughter, Kendra Paige Whitehead, Pullman, WA; her mother, Ethel May Newby (Wayne); Shelley, ID; her father, Jimmie Neil McSpadden (Jo), Boulder City, NV, and 3 brothers and 3 sisters: Janeil Sowards, Loveland, CO; Jim (Carolee) McSpadden, Idaho Falls, ID; Carla (Kevin) Albertson, Pocatello, ID; Sherrill (Mark) Olsen, Meridian, ID; Darin (Heather) McSpadden, Lindon, UT; and Brad (Stephanie) McSpadden, Pocatello, ID; nieces and nephews; and an immeasurable number of friends who loved her like family. She was preceded in death by her grandparents and a nephew, Nathan James Sowards (Janeil).
The service will be held at Eckersell Funeral Home in Rigby, ID, on Monday, July 13th at 2 pm, (101 West Main Street, Rigby, Idaho). Family visitation will be from 12:30-2:00 pm.
