Kelly Kaye Schiess of Victor, Idaho, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2026, at Idaho Falls Community Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Kelly was born July 4, 1958, in the Idaho Falls LDS Hospital to Frank and Fern Sharp. She grew up on the family ranch in the Clark area, just a few miles outside Rigby. Kelly was the youngest of five children, with a big age gap between her and her older siblings. As a result, she spent much of her childhood with her nieces who lived nearby. They loved riding horses and playing in the canal in front of her house.
Kelly attended grade school at the old Clark Elementary School, then later in Rigby. She graduated from Rigby High School in 1977.
In 1981, she met the love of her life, Lyle Ray Schiess. With her son, Cory, they began building a life together. Kelly and Lyle were married on January 2, 1982, during a snowstorm, and made their home in Victor, Idaho. Together they welcomed three more children: Leah, Chance, and Megan. They were later sealed as a family in the Idaho Falls Temple on June 30, 1988.
Kelly dedicated herself as a homemaker while Lyle worked long hours farming. She found great joy raising her children, supporting them in their activities, and getting them where they needed to be. She loved making dinners for Lyle and delivering them out to him in the fields, a simple act that reflected her deep love and devotion to her family. Kelly began working as a breakfast cook at the Teton Valley Lodge, where she remained for more than 17 years. She became part of the Teton Valley Lodge family. Kelly also took care of several homes in the area. What started out as housekeeping turned into lifelong friendships. She would do anything to take care of her friends.
During her free time, Kelly enjoyed working in her yard, especially mowing the lawn—which seemed to get a little bigger every year. She took great pride in keeping it just right and was very particular about how it was mowed. She also loved tending to her flowers and moving the garden hose around the yard. She often would joke that she was “moving pipe.” She also loved going with her kids and grandkids on their family vacations, creating treasured memories. During the long winter months, she kept busy working on puzzles, paint-by-numbers pictures, and diamond art creations—all the while cursing that it was snowing again! Kelly loved to tease and joke with everyone, and she loved to be a part of everyone's lives. More than anything, however, Kelly cherished time spent with her grandchildren. They were the light of her life, and she loved them with all her heart.
Kelly was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in a variety of callings. Her favorite calling was Primary president, a position she held for five years. She loved those Primary children as if they were her own, she would do anything for them. She even attended their birthday parties and was known to jump on the trampoline right alongside them. She was released from her Primary calling to care for Lyle as his health declined.
Kelly is survived by her children Cory (Rachel) Watson of Rigby, Leah (Greg) Larson of St. Anthony, Megan (Travis) Markegard of Victor; brother, Merlin (Belinda) Sharp; thirteen grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Kelly is preceded in death by her husband, Lyle; her parents, Frank and Fern; sisters, Beverly and Marilyn; brother; Jay; son, Chance; and grandson, Justin Watson.
