Ken was born August 25, 1948, to Norman and Rosalie King in Eugene, Oregon. He was one of three children, Marvin, Ken and Myron. Ken’s dad passed away while the boys were young. Rosalie then married Ray Williams. Ray helped her raise the boys.
When Ken was 17, he ventured off on a journey to Wyoming. When he returned, he told everyone how pretty the Wind River Mountain Range was and how he planned to move to Wyoming. This is where his love of Wyoming started.
Ken moved to Wyoming and started a career in the telecommunication field. He spent many a year installing phone lines all over Wyoming for Union Telephone in Mountain View, WY. No matter where Ken went, he was sure to make a new friend.
One night while having a beer at the local bar, he happened to get into a bar fight. This is where he met Linda. Little did he know it, but Linda was going to be his forever girl, his soulmate. His life would be forever changed.
On April 29, 1989, Ken and Linda were married in Oregon with her two children, Shawn and Becky by their sides. From day one, he treated Linda’s two children as if they were his own children. Always there for anyone needing a helping hand.
On July 21, 1993, Ken became “Gumpa”. He was excited to start this new chapter and couldn’t wait to start teaching Aaron how to build telephones. Three more grand children were blessed to call him “Gumpa”.
In 1996 Ken and Linda made their way to ST Anthony, Idaho where they made a new home, and Ken continued with his career in the telecommunication field until his retirement in 2011. Together, he and Linda enjoyed fishing out on the coast, traveling to Arizona for the winter, golfing, karaoke at the local bars, BBQ dinners with all of their friends and family and just enjoyed being around people, in general.
One thing about Ken, he always thought about other people and put their needs first. If he could help a person, he was there helping, expecting nothing in return. If anyone needed a home, he opened his home to them. When Linda was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, he made sure she got the best care possible. When he was diagnosed with cancer, he told us, “I’ve lived my life, if there is a younger person who could use a liver (transplant), I don’t want to take that away from them.”
Ken is survived by his two brothers, Marvin (Jeannie) King and Myron King of Oregon; daughter Becky (Carl) Oehler of Wyoming; grand kids, Aaron, Skylar, Evelyn and Amber, many nieces and nephews. Plus, many great friends like Monty, Dave, Mary & Stan and more than we can count. His four-legged best friend Willy.
Ken is proceeded in death by his parents Norman, Rosalie and Ray; Son Shawn Ewart; Brother-in-laws Morgan Moon and Marty Lamb; Sister-in-law Judy Truman.
Per Ken’s wishes, there will not be a service. He would love everyone to go to Betty’s Bar and have a drink on him. There will be a private ceremony for him and Linda in Oregon at a later date.
