Kent Eric Ellsworth passed away at his home in Grant Idaho January 28, 2025 from complications of lifelong diabetes. He was born March 3, 1959 to Elmer Fred and Lila Beth Christensen Ellsworth. He was their 5th and last child.
Kent attended schools in the area and graduated from Rigby High School in 1977 with high honors. He attended Ricks College, then served a mission for the LDS church in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and Minneapolis, Minnesota. He graduated from Ricks College in 1980. He finished his schooling at BYU-Provo and graduated in 1982 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology and a minor in Mathematics.
He returned to the Lewisville area, where he worked at Ellsworth Produce, farming with his brother, George, and at Bedmaster Manufacturing, assisting with design, layout, drafting and as a machinist. He enjoyed traveling with friends to Europe and the Caribbean, and attended many musical concerts. He was a talented wood craftsman. He helped build and remodel houses and made beautiful furniture and clocks. He loved biology, anatomy and physiology and assisted several professors at Ricks College. He was a math and science genius and tutored many nieces, nephews and friends. In his church, he worked with the scouting program, young mens, elders quorum, primary teacher and Sunday School president, where he became the ‘Candy Man’ giving candy to kids who went to class. He donated hundreds of stuffed animals and toys to Primary Children’s Hospital and police. He helped with ward activities, building backdrops and Halloween games. He helped where he could, gave hours of service and was everyone’s favorite handyman.
Kent had many health problems throughout his life, but always met challenges with a positive attitude and hope. He overcame cancer, kidney failures and transplant, and a debilitating stroke. He was an example of optimism, perseverance, faith and grit.
He is survived by his sister, Mardene Collins (Bill), sister Maureen Saurey (Paul), brother George (Debbie) brother Kevin (Gina) and 16 nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a great-nephew.
Services will be held Saturday, February 8 at 11am at the LDS church in Lewisville, Idaho. Visitation will be Friday February 7 from 6:30 – 8 pm and Saturday from 9:30-10:45 am at the same church.
