Leroy Udell Ames, 73, of Ucon, died Thursday, December 17, 2009, at his home.
He was born January 18, 1936, in Pocatello, to Leroy Ames and Ethel Effie Orner Ames. He was raised and attended schools in Idaho Falls, and graduated from Idaho Falls High School. He served in the Army National Guard. On December 1, 1953, he married JoAnne Hokanson, they later divorced.
On January 18, 1974, he married JoAnne Larsen in Idaho Falls; their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls, LDS Temple on January 15, 1983.
Udell was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He worked as security for the Idaho Falls Temple from May 1985 to June 2001.
He enjoyed music, writing poems, gardening; he especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife; JoAnne Ames, of Ucon, Daughters, Rita (Leon) Hebdon, of Idaho Falls, Bonita (Joe) Maughan, of Ammon, Belynda (Jay) Fuell, of Rigby, Kimberly (Lancer) Williams, of Moscow, son; Randy (Nancy) Ames, of Nampa, sisters; Iris Merin, of Georgia, Ethel Baron, of Idaho Falls, Belva Davis, of Lewisville, Brothers; Aldred Ames, of Boise, Levi Ames, of Springville, UT, 18 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, 2 brothers, and a sister.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, December 21, 2009, at the Ucon Stake Center, 2967 E. 105 N., Ucon, with Bishop Timothy Orchard, conducting. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., Sunday, at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main Street, Rigby, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, prior to services at the stake center. Burial will be in the Ucon Cemetery, under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel.
