Lamon Baird

Lorenzo LaMon Baird, 90 of Rigby, Idaho, passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2021 at his home.

LaMon was born September 15, 1931 in Darlington, Idaho to Archibald Baird and Vera Elizabeth McAffee.  He was raised and attended school in Rigby, graduating from Rigby High School.  He continued his education at Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho; graduating with a bachelor’s degree in agriculture, a field he truly enjoyed.  On August 27, 1952, he married Zelma Miller in the Idaho Falls Temple.  LaMon and Zelma made their home in Rigby and were blessed with 3 daughters and 7 sons. In addition to his life’s full-time work with the USDA Soil Conservation Service, he enjoyed farming and farmed on the side throughout his life.

LaMon was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities.  He and Zelma served a fulltime mission to Mississippi.  He especially enjoyed family history, scouting and sports.  In his younger years he played high school and College football and ran track.  In later years he officiated in basketball and football. LaMon loved the outdoors and relished the time spent camping with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Zelma M. Baird of Rigby, Idaho; daughters, Angela (Norman) Shipp of McCammon, Idaho, Catherine (Kent) Whitney of Layton, Utah, Sally Baird of Rigby, Idaho; sons, David (Linda) Baird of Garden City, Utah, Arnel (Susie) Baird of Idaho Falls, Michael (Holly) Baird of Chubbuck, Idaho, Andrea (Mark) Baird of Twin Falls, Idaho, Samuel (Karalee) Baird of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Robert (Sharon) Baird of Fruit Heights, Utah; sisters, Connie (Jay) Morgan of Shelley, Idaho, Shirlene (Nick) Hall of Rigby, Idaho; 45 grandchildren and 63 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Archibald and Vera Baird; sons Mark Baird, Ben Baird; sister, Nola Yancey; brother, Neldon Baird; and grandson, John Mathias Shipp.

Funeral services will be held Monday, December 27, 2021 at the Rigby 20th Ward Chapel, 364 N. 4100 E., Rigby, Idaho 83442.  A visitation will be held Sunday, December 26, 2021 from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m., and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., Monday, prior to services at 11:00; both at the church.  Interment will follow at the Milo Cemetery.  Services are under the care of Eckersell Funeral Home in Rigby.
