LaReta Decker Andersen, 78, of Rigby, Idaho, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend left this earth peacefully on December 18, 2016.
LaReta was born January 28, 1938 in Minersville, Utah to Frank Mortensen Decker and Betty Carter Decker.
LaReta was a sweet spirit who most people recognized from her 20+ years of friendly and efficient service as a clerk for Jefferson County DMV. People drove for miles to have LaReta help them. She provided childcare in her home for many and also worked at Barber’s Drive-in, JC Penney, and Broulim’s. She loved to read and had quite a collection of LDS and other books.
She especially enjoyed going on frequent road trips and seeing sites with the love of her life, DeMar Hall Andersen, who swept her off her feet and brought her from Parowan, Utah to Rigby, Idaho to enjoy a beautiful life together beginning on May 25, 1956. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple on August 21, 1999.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings in the Primary and Relief Society. She truly loved the gospel. She instilled gospel principles in every aspect of her life and was an example to all. She was respected by all who were privileged to know her and will be dearly missed.
They were blessed to have four children: Gaye Lynn Law (Darrell), Marla Jo Hurst (Ed), Jeffery Decker Andersen (Nancy), and William “LaMar” Andersen (Cristine), as well as 8 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren, who they adored. LaReta shared a special relationship with each of her family members as well as neighbors and friends. She was kind and caring to all.
LaReta is survived by her children, many nieces and nephews who cherished her, one brother, and three sisters. Brother: Garth Decker (Cindy) of Parowan, Utah. Sisters: Sandra Slack of Richfield, Utah, Helen Lamoreaux (Clyde) of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Garna Mortensen of Cedar City Utah, who she enjoyed many road trips with as well.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Betty Decker, her husband, DeMar Andersen, a brother, Ron Decker, and a great-grandson, Keenan Andersen.
