Lash J. Laker, 89 of Rexburg died Friday, September 27, 2013 at the home of his daughter Percillia.
Lash was born April 26, 1924 in Freedom, Wyoming to James Andrew Hokanson Laker and Josephine Wilheimina Johnson Laker. He was raised and attended schools in Star Valley and Freedom Wyoming. He Married Opal Fyfe in Lorenzo, Idaho, their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple June 13, 2001. They were blessed with 3 daughters, 1 son and celebrated 67 years of marriage before Opal passed.
Lash worked for Challenge Creamery for 44 years in Idaho Falls and Rexburg. He also worked as a maintenance man and boiler maker, and repaired boilers all over the valley. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; he served in many capacities and volunteered at the cannery. He was also a member of the Teamsters Union. He was a good neighbor who enjoyed helping others, and would do auto repairs for anyone. He loved to hunt fish and explore the back roads. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Lash is survived by his daughters, Patricia (Jim) Dorcheus, of Rigby, Percillia (Carlyle) Martin of Rigby, son Ernest Lash (Gloria) Laker, of Post Falls, Idaho, 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a daughter, Rachel Careline Laker Cleveland, 3 brothers, 3 sisters and a grandson, Casey.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at the Rexburg 5th Ward LDS Chapel, 590 Summerwood Dr., Rexburg. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.m., Tuesday at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main Street, Rigby, and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., Wednesday, prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery. Services are under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
