Lavell H. Johnson

LaVell H. Johnson, 75, of Driggs, died December 1, 2009, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. He was born March 7, 1934, in Driggs, Idaho, to Kenneth LaVell Johnson and Marie Margaret Hansen Johnson. He was raised and attended schools in Driggs, graduating from Teton High School. He continued his education at the University of Idaho at Moscow. On January 29, 1954, he married Gloy DeeNee Schiers, in Driggs, she preceded him in death. On May 12, 1984, he married Elaine Louise Tooley, in Rochester, Minnesota. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; he was active in the Boy Scouts of America, served as Teton County Commissioner and on the Teton County Planning and Zoning committee. He served many years on the Teton Fair Board, as a member of the Teton County Cattleman’s Association and was President and Water Master of the Grand Teton Canal Co. He was an active member of Driggs Lions Club, and the Intermountain Horse Pulling Association. LaVell was an avid high school rodeo fan, enjoyed cutter racing, horse pulling, and fishing. He loved his cattle ranch, horses and dogs. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Elaine Johnson, of Driggs, daughters; Sheila JoVan Johnson, of Shelley, Gayle DeeNee Williams, of Tetonia, sons; Pine DeVell Johnson, of Nampa, Steven LaVell (Susan) Johnson, of Leadore, David Ken Johnson, of Victor, sister; Ann Marie Custis, of Sheridan, Wyoming, brothers; Lynn (Judy) Johnson, of Dietrich, Idaho, Terryl (Marie) Johnson, of Driggs, a sister-in-law, Susan Johnson, of Rigby, 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and many other young people who called him grandpa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ken and Marie Johnson, 1st wife, Gloy Schiers Johnson, a brother, Carl Johnson, and 1 grandchild, Seth Johnson. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 5, 2009, at the Driggs Stake Center, 221 N. 100 E., Driggs, ID. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Friday evening at the Driggs Stake Center, and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., prior to services, at the Stake Center. Burial will be in the Victor Cemetery, under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby. The family will appreciate contributions to the Teton County Fairgrounds.
