Lawrence Raymond Hoopes, 86, died Sunday, December 28, 2014 at the Veterans Hospital in Boise, Idaho. Lawrence was born December 5, 1929 at Rupert, Idaho to Benjamin and Mary Fifield Hoopes. In 1935, the family moved to LaBelle, Idaho. He attended school in LaBelle and Rigby. Lawrence served in the US Marine Corps from 1946 to 1950. He then worked as a carpenter. Lawrence married Verla Drake and brought four daughters and 1 son to their home. Their son Michael passed away at an early age. Verla passed away in 1976 leaving Lawrence alone to raise his daughters. Lawrence met Arlenna Hansen and was married in July of 1977. Lawrence gained 3 sons, and 4 daughters. Lawrence is survived by his wife Arlenna Hoopes of Boise, Debbie (Harry) Comstock of Gooding, Teresa Wilcox of Boise, Sandra Link, of Utah, Mary Ann Hoopes, of Boise, Michele (Clint) Egbert of Pennsylvania, Kenton (Pam) Hansen, of Ucon, Gaylene (Bruce) Portela of Michigan, John (Mary) Hansen of Ucon, Sheryl (Roger) Thompson, of Rigby, Wayne (Pam) Hansen of Nampa, Nannette (Jerry) Sigler, of Boise, sisters, Dorothy (Elwin) Drake, of Arizona, Lois (Leslie) Grover, of Idaho Falls, 37 grandchildren, and 46 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Verla Drake Hoopes, son, Michael, parents, Ben and Mary, 8 brothers, Edward, Jess, Clarence, George, Don, Paul, Harlow “Butch”, Teddy and 2 sisters, Phillis Gallup, Velda Huntsman, 2 sons-in-law, and 1 great-grandson. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 3, 2014 at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 West Main Street, Rigby. The family will visit with friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Friday and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., prior to services, both at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery. Services are under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
