Layne “A” Rindlisbaker, 67, of Blackfoot, formerly of Chesterfield, Idaho, passed away Thursday, June 11, 2009, at Portneuf Reg. Medical Center in Pocatello, Idaho, following a long battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving wife and children.
Layne was born in Bancroft, Idaho, November 7, 1941, to Fredrick Christian Rindlisbaker and Rosa Gilbert Rindlisbaker. He grew up in Hatch, Idaho where he attended school in Bancroft and graduated from North Gem High School. He attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho for 1 ½ years, then chose to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served for 2 1/2 years in the West German Mission. After returning from his mission he married Frances Eugene Lloyd of Soda Springs, Idaho. They moved to Logan, Utah, where he attended and graduated from Utah State University, earning his B.S. degree. After school they made their home in Soda Springs, Idaho where he taught school and coached for 5 years. He then returned to his first love; ranching and farming in Chesterfield, Idaho, where he successfully raised his family.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings, including, High Counsel, Sunday School President, Elders Quorum President, Young Men’s President, 1st Counselor in the Stake Mission Presidency, Temple Prep. Teacher, Scout Leader, Ward Executive Secretary, Gospel Essentials Teacher, Bishop of the Chesterfield Ward and he was serving as a Ward Missionary at the time of his death. He was also involved with many community service organizations including; Secretary of the Chesterfield Land and Livestock and was on the Board of Directors, the Bank Advisory Board, Board of Directors for the Bancroft Grain Growers, North Gem School Board and was President of Farmers Grain Co-op in Ogden, Utah.
Some of the joys that Layne had in life were his wife Eugene, who was his partner and friend, and his 7 children. He also enjoyed all of his grandchildren. Some of his greatest pleasures were taking his grandchildren for rides on his Gold Wing motorcycle and fishing anytime, anywhere he could. Layne found his greatest joy by serving and helping others. He had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and loved his Savior and Heavenly Father.
He is survived by his wife, Eugene Rindlisbaker, of Blackfoot, daughters, Stacey (David) Frye, of Pleasant Grove, UT, Vicki (Todd) Burry, of American Falls, ID, JoEl (Tony) Armand, of Irvine, CA, Jalayne (Jason) Haverfield, of Miramar Beach, FL, sons, Todd (LaDawn) Rindisbaker, of Salt Lake City, UT, Lynn (Sarah) Rindlisbaker, of Rigby, Randy (Lindsey) Rindlisbaker, of Idaho Falls, mother, Rosa Gilbert Rindlisbaker, of Blackfoot, sister, Kaye (Richard) Berrett, of Roberts, brother, Doyal (Mary Lou) Rindlisbacher, of Providence, UT, 18 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Fred Rindlisbaker, and a brother, Clair Rindlisbaker.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 15, 2009. Viewings will be held Sunday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and prior to the service from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., all services will be at the Wapello 2nd Ward Chapel, 337 N. 200 E., Blackfoot, Idaho.
A short graveside service and interment will be in the Bancroft Cemetery at 4:00 p.m. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
