Leda Mae Wood Madsen, 87, of Rigby, Idaho, died April 6, 2016. She was born May 26, 1928, in Rigby, to Merrit Josiah and Margaret Ellen Hubbard Wood. She grew up and attended schools in Rigby and graduated from Rigby High School as salutatorian. She loved learning and was conscientious in all she did.
On June 5, 1946, she married George Keith Madsen in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple, and they were blessed with 5 children. She was able to stay at home while her children were young and then enjoyed working after her children left home. She was the Jefferson County Fair Board Secretary for 35 years and was a Jefferson County Deputy Treasurer for many years.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings throughout her life. She and her husband served as missionaries in the Michigan, Dearborn Mission in 1986 and as temple officiators in the Idaho Falls Temple.
She enjoyed creating an orderly home, sewing, canning and grandchildren. She believed in working hard and felt like she should always be accomplishing something or helping someone. She was very compassionate and influenced many even in her difficult last few years. She is a beloved mother, grandmother and friend.
Survivors include children, Bryon Keith (Sidney) Madsen of Mesa, Ariz., Lamar W (Lynette) Madsen, Colleen (Darcy) Stewart, Dalan Keith (LaRetta) Madsen all of St. George, Utah, and Karen (Myron) Williams of Rigby; 20 grandchildren and 47 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Keith Madsen, parents, Merrit Josiah Wood and Margaret Ellen Hubbard Wood, three brothers and five sisters, Floyd R. Wood, Vonda A. Williams, Blanche R. Rock, Reece H. Wood, B. Wayne Wood, Verna Wolfensberger, Pauline Blackburn, and Susie Wood.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 11, 2016, at the Rigby LDS Stake Center, 258 West 100 North, Rigby, Idaho. The family will visit with friends Sunday evening, April 10, 2016, from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Rigby LDS Stake Center and prior to services beginning at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be at the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel.
