Leland “Wade” Ball of Lewisville, Idaho, passed away at the age of 83, December 5th, 2023, at EIRMC in Idaho Falls.
Wade was born June 15, 1940, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Leland Walker Ball and Elva Pearl Jackson Ball, the first of five children. He grew up in Lewisville, attended public schools in the area and graduated from Rigby High School. He also attended Ricks College and graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor’s degree in business in 1966.
On May 29, 1964, he married Dorothy Ann Hill in the Salt Lake City Temple. Wade and Dorothy made their home in Lewisville where he farmed in Lewisville, Monteview, Hamer, Menan and drove truck for himself and various carriers. They were the parents of three boys and two girls.
Wade enjoyed the farm life in the upper Snake River Valley with his family and relatives. He was an avid reader and enjoyed reading novels and short stories written by American novelist Louis L’Amour, documentaries, movies and writings regarding World War II and various church books. He was known to enjoy listening to Paul Harvey, the American radio broadcaster for the mid-day news and his famous “The Rest of the Story” segments. He also enjoyed listening to country and western music as well as Elvis Presley. He was known for his sense of humor and liked to tell a joke or two.
Wade was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission to the Western States and held various church callings including working in the Rexburg and Idaho Falls Temples.
Wade is survived by his wife, Dorothy; son, Kevin (Dionne) Ball of Syracuse, Utah; daughter, LeAnn (Jim) Hansen of Idaho Falls, Idaho; son, Brad (Suzanne) Ball of Saratoga Springs, Utah; son, Ryan (Michelle) Ball of Rigby, Idaho; brother, Richard (Myrna) Ball of Menan, ID and Sister, Barbara (Dee) Raymond of Lewisville, ID and 20 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers David and Stephen, daughter Suzanne Ball Christen, son in law Jim Hansen, grandsons Jake Hansen and baby Joshua Christen, and great grandson Houston Hansen.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 9, 2023, at the Lewisville LDS Church, (474 E 3450 E Lewisville, Idaho). The family will visit with friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 8th at the Lewisville LDS Church. Visitation will also be held prior to the funeral from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. Internment will be at the Lewisville Cemetery.
