Gardner Leland Flint, age 97, of Rigby, Idaho, passed away peacefully at Fairwinds Independent Living Home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, on February 15, 2026. He was born on May 11, 1928, at Rigby, Idaho, to William Gardner Flint and Vera Mary Kite. He graduated from Rigby High School, where he was well known throughout Southeast Idaho for his prowess in playing basketball for Rigby High School. He was recruited by multiple colleges but chose to work and marry the woman who stole his heart.
Leland was married to Lucille Pauline Merritt, who preceded him in death, and later to Carolyn Ruth Downey. He worked for the telephone company where he served as a manager for many years. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions.
Leland enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting, sports, and spending time with his family, whom he loved deeply.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Ruth Downey Flint, who also stole his heart and has been a loving wife; his sons Steven L. Flint and wife, Cecelia Flint of Mesa, Arizona; Brian Flint of St. George, Utah; Bruce G. Flint and wife, Peggy Grover Flint, of Rexburg, Idaho; Douglas Paul Flint of Fruit Heights, Utah; and his brother, Gard Flint, of Lewisville, Idaho. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren.
He will be dearly missed by his family and all who knew him.
Services will be held March 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with a viewing from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 258 West 1" North, Rigby, Idaho. The funeral will have a live broadcast, we will post the link at the top of the obituary before the service.
