Leland “Lee” Nels Nielson, age 96 of Ririe, died at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, Saturday, December 3, 2005. Lee was born September 28, 1909, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Edgar O. Nielson and Katherine Ann Bevans. Lee grew up and attended schools in Cleveland, Ohio. He graduated from Cleveland High School, where he participated in sports. Lee spent his early years farming & ranching. He developed a love for hunting, fishing, and working with dogs, and was an avid horseman.
Lee was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day- Saints. He married Arta Lewis, March 9, 1934 in Soda Springs, Idaho. This marriage was later solemnized in the Logan L.D.S Temple. Lee spent many years serving in the Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of the Idaho Falls Elks Lodge, and served on the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center Advisory Board. Lee worked for many years for Snake River Equipment in Idaho Falls. He retired in 1977. During his retirement he was an avid golfer and artist. He specialized in painting outdoor scenes, and won several awards at local fairs in South Eastern Idaho. He gave a lot of his work away. Lee had a keen interest in politics, and served on the Ririe City Council, and on the Youth 2000 Council. Lee was firm in his beliefs, and was a wonderful Husband, Father, and Grandfather. He is survived by his wife Arta Nielson of Ririe, Idaho, One daughter Tamara Boyle of Rigby, Idaho. Two Sons, Nick Nielson (Linda) of Pocatello, Idaho, and Scott Nielson (Gladys) of Rigby, Idaho. Lee is survived by one sister Ora Rassmussen of Preston, Idaho, and two Brothers, Homer (Ann) Nielson of Preston, Idaho and Merlin (Beth) Nielson of Idaho Falls, Idaho. Lee is survived by 17 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 7, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. in the Ririe Stake Center, 14061 N. 130 E. Ririe, Idaho. With Bishop Dan Skene officiating. The Family will receive friends Tuesday evening 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby, and Wednesday, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Stake Center. Burial will be in the Ririe–Shelton Cemetery, under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
