Leo Verl Selman, 83, a lifelong resident of Lewisville, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at his home.
He was born November 3, 1929, in Lewisville to Joseph Hyrum Selman and Jennie Maude Barney Selman. He was raised and attended schools in Lewisville, graduating from Midway High School. On March 24, 1967, he married Wanda “Darlene” McMurtrey in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He worked as a Fieldman for Canner Seed in Lewisville.
Leo is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; he served in many capacities including ward clerk for two bishoprics, as a home teacher and he, along with his wife Darlene, taught temple preparation classes. He also faithfully attended the temple every Thursday for many years. Leo enjoyed sports; coaching and watching his children and grandchildren play was one of his favorite pastimes. He also enjoyed horses and remained active by riding his bike 20 miles a day.
He is survived by his daughter, Sheryl (Todd) Trejo, of Idaho Falls, son, Scott (Emily) Selman, of Lewisville, sister, Dixie Simmons, of Riverside and 8 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene Selman, sisters, Verla Oswald, Gay Coles, brothers, Billie Selman and Glen Selman.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 26, 2013 at Lewisville 1st Ward LDS Chapel with Bishop Val Rosenberg conducting. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday evening and from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. prior to services, both at the church. Burial will be in Lewisville Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
