Our sweet mother, Leone Oakeson Allen, peacefully passed away November 22, 2021 at the age of 96. Born January 22, 1925 to Harvey Oakeson and Maria Leak Oakeson in South Jordan, Utah. She was the eighth child of ten and she adored her nine siblings. She was raised in a very kind and loving home. She was always proud of her Swedish and English Heritage.
Leone married John Emery Allen of Draper Utah; they were blessed with seven children. When he was drafted during World War 2 Leone was left to care for their two young daughters. They spent their early years farming in Draper and Lehi, Utah. In 1961 they made their home in Monteview, Idaho and continued farming. This has been her home for the past 60 years. Life on the farm was very challenging for the family. But, for her grandkids there was not a better place in the world. Here everyone felt special.
Leone had a strong love for her Savior and was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. At age 24 with four young children she was called to serve as her ward Primary President. She served in leadership positions in all the church auxiliaries but teaching the gospel was her favorite and most rewarding calling.
Leone had a very happy and cheerful nature. Her humor, kindness and empathy have blessed the lives of many. Motherhood was the joy of her life. Each child was welcomed with love and unselfish care. In later years, family reunions, parties, holidays and family meals were a top priority. She went out of her way to make sure her family remained close and well fed. This continues to be a huge blessing in the lives of over 100 descendants. To all of us she is “Grandma Great”.
Leone was preceded in death by her husband John Emery Allen, son Clyde, Sons in law Frank Dawes and Errol Covington, four sisters and 5 brothers. Survived by her children: Linda Dawes, Wanda Covington, Wayne (Susan), Gary (Mary), John (Teresa), Burt (Mary), and Rosa Allen. 28 grandchildren and 52 great grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be held Monday, November 29, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at the Monteview Ward chapel. Prior to services family will receive friends from 9:30-10:45 a.m., also at the church. Interment will follow at the West Jefferson Memorial Park Cemetery in Terreton, Idaho.
