Leston Howard Woods, 70, of Ririe, died of a heart attack on May 3, 2011, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls.
He was born March 11, 1941, in Junction, Utah, to Lawrence Wesley Woods and Carmaleta Brindley Woods. The family moved to Archer when he was 10 years old. He attended schools in Archer and Madison High School. On March 8, 1962, he married Ramona Irene Byington for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Together they had 4 daughters. He worked as a Farmer and also, one summer as a Lumberjack for Earl Wilcox to supplement the farm income. As a result of a lumberjacking accident, he was paralyzed from the chest down. He then worked at Kent’s Lawn Mower Repair on Woodruff for 15 years. He worked as a self-employed small engine repair mechanic for the last 35 years.
Leston is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many capacities including gospel doctrine teacher, greeter at the Rexburg Temple, in stake and ward clerk positions, and as a teacher in the Elders quorum. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, four-wheeling, flying, and spending time with his grandkids.
He is survived by his wife, Ramona Irene Byington Woods, of Ririe, Idaho, daughters, Rhonda Sheri (Montivel) Burke, of Orem, Utah, LaRenda Gaye (Ronald) Sommers, of Ririe, Idaho, Kayleen (Russell) Davis, of American Fork, Utah, Kindrid Sue (Michael) Griffeth, of Tooele, Utah, sisters, Deanna (Rod) Dawson, Debra Rumsey, Marqueta (Charles) Harrison, Melanie (Reese) Clawson, all of Idaho Falls, brothers, Dean (Faye) Woods, of Menan, Kirby (Lahna) Woods, of Sunnydale, Idaho, 18 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Wesley Woods, mother, Carmaleta Brindley McCulloch, stepfather, Harry McCulloch, and granddaughter, Brindley Ramona Davis.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 6, 2011, at the Ririe LDS Chapel, 4732 E. 200 N., Ririe. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 5, 2011, at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main Street, Rigby and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., prior to services Friday, at the church. Burial will be in the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery, under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
