Lewis Robert Green, age 81, of Idaho Falls, passed away at home Friday, July 13, 2018 surrounded by those most dear to him. He left this world just as he lived his life, on his own terms.
Lew was born October 3, 1936 in Idaho Falls a son to Robert Dennis Green and Mary Harriet Poole Green. He attended schools in Menan, and Rigby then graduated from Roberts High School.
Lew served in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1962. While in the Air Force he spent time in Japan, Florida, California, Texas and Washington. While in Washington he met Eddie Faye Gallion. They were married in 1960 in Tacoma, Washington. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force, Lew continued to live in Washington working construction/building homes. This skill would come in handy as he built many beautiful things including his home in Terreton.
In 1968 Lew and Faye moved to Terreton to join the family ranch. It was there they welcomed the light of their lives Rachel Rene. Rachel immediately became Lew's shadow and followed him around feeding cows, riding horses and working the land. He was and will always be her hero. Lew and Faye were later divorced in 1987.
Lew loved the ranch life. Riding his horse was second nature. He followed in his dad’s footsteps, working hard whether it was cattle or farming. It’s been said he was a true "gentleman cowboy." Lew continued to work on the ranch in Terreton with his dad and brother Edgar until 2002 when he sold the ranch and moved to Idaho Falls.
In 1988 Lew married Sharon Talbot. Sharon quit her job to help Lew work on the ranch. She loved being part of the everyday activities and being by his side. They hosted many dinner parties, took several trips and enjoyed life until 2011 when Sharon passed away.
The second biggest event in Lew’s life happened in April of 1993 when his granddaughter Bailey was born. Bailey brought new life and joy into Lew’s heart. The two of them didn't have to say much to each other, as it seemed they had a special bond that only they understood. Lew treasured every visit from Bailey and was so proud of the many things she had already accomplished in her life.
Lew loved life! He enjoyed playing pool on a league, blackjack and poker. He was an avid reader and while he loved most westerns, he collected and read every Louis L’Amour book ever written multiple times. He taught Rachel and her best friend Michelle to ski, in his wranglers of course. He loved country music. Waylon was his favorite. He also loved dancing, especially the jitterbug, and had a great ear for music. He never learned to read music but could play by ear on his organ. His beloved dog Max would often sing along.
Everything about Lew exuded precision from his dress to his yard and home. He loved to make things look nice and had an eye for beauty. He also had a soft spot in his heart for others and could often be found helping family and friends through their difficult times.
He is survived by his daughter Rachel Rene of Twin Falls, Idaho, and granddaughter Bailey Anderson of Boise, Idaho, two sisters Annette (Harvey) Petersen of Kearns, Utah and Mary (Glenn) Capps of Jerome, Idaho, very special friend Debbie Woolstenhulme of Idaho Falls, many nieces/nephews and countless friends and lives that he so quietly touched.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sharon, two brothers Von and Edgar Green, sister Grace Hobley, and also his beloved dog, Max.
Graveside services will be held Saturday August 4, 2018 at 11:00 at the Annis Little Butte Cemetery (Menan). A Celebration of Life will be held following the service at his home in Idaho Falls.
