Lewis Edward Jones, age 89, of Idaho Falls, passed away Tuesday March 15, 2016 at the Gardens of Rigby.
Lewis was born on November 7, 1926 to John LeRoy Jones and Viola Matilda Wallace. He grew up and attended schools in Roberts and Menan. Lewis married Laurel Gwen Glover on September 10, 1948 in Rexburg, Idaho; their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as an ordinance worker in the Idaho Falls and Oakland Temples, the High Council, and a First counselor in a bishopric. Lewis and Laurel served a mission at the Idaho Falls Cannery.
Lewis served in World War II as a Tail Gunner in a B-29, and he also served in the Korean War. Lewis loved woodworking and playing Santa Claus for the neighborhood children as well as his own children for many years.
Lewis is survived by his wife Laurel, daughters; Patricia Nicole’ McCay of Oroville, California, and Becky Eddins (Robert) of Labelle. His sons; Leland LeRoy Jones of Idaho Falls, Jerry (Martha) Jones of, Texas, and Bruce (Brandy) Jones of Boise 16 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Lewis was preceded by his parents, daughter, Reatha Gwen, son, Dexter Lewis, three brothers, and 5 grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 26, 2016, at the Sage Lakes LDS Chapel, (3370 N. 500 W. Idaho Falls, ID 83402). The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery. Services are under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby. Memorial contributions may be made to the family in Lewis's name.
