Lois Crystal Jones, 85, of Rigby, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2013, at her sister’s home in Goshen, Idaho.
She was born September 11, 1927, in Garfield, Idaho, to Andrew Vern Crystal and Bessie Venetta Randall Crystal. Raised in Garfield, she attended Garfield Elementary School and graduated from Rigby High School in 1946. On December 31, 1947, she married Kenneth Y. Jones in Garfield; their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on March 11, 1967.
Lois was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many capacities, including camp director, visiting teacher, and Sunday school teacher. Lois loved spending time at the Crystal cabin in Island Park, golfing with Kenny, making quilts, and camping with the Young Women. She was an expert horsewoman, master gardener and excellent cook. She mothered countless young people—from nieces, nephews and foster children to ward members and Boy Scouts at Camp Hunt in Garden City, Utah, where she and Kenny were Camp Rangers for ten summers.
Lois and Kenny served two LDS missions (Canada Winnipeg and Salt Lake South) and were on the board of directors of the Rigby Senior Citizen Center and the Jefferson County Museum. Lois also volunteered as a Pink Lady at the LDS Hospital in Idaho Falls and was a guide at the Rigby Museum for 15 years. She exemplified the values of generosity, thrift, hard work, and cheerfulness.
Survivors include sons Michael K. (Erma) and KC (Linda), both of Logan, Utah, 13 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren, brother Demont (Glenna) Crystal of Rigby, and sister Betty Ball Hansen of Goshen. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son JD, sisters Nola Rau, Rhea Justin, LaVon Hill, and brother Vearl Crystal.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 13, 2013, at the Garfield 2nd Ward LDS Chapel, 71 North 3700 East, Rigby. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., Sunda, May 12, 2013, at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 West Main Street, Rigby, and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery, services are under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
