Lois Leora Nelson

November 14, 1928 — August 6, 2022

Lois Leora Nelson, 93 years old of Terreton, Idaho passed away on Saturday, August 6 th , 2022, in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Leora was born on November 14, 1928, in Leadore, Idaho to LeRoy and Sarah Peterson with bright blue eyes and a happy smile.  Leora spent her childhood in a sod roof home on Lee Creek until her parents bought a ranch on Eight Mile.   She has pages and pages of childhood memories where she shares stories of her happiness and hardships as a young girl, all of which she did side by side with her 5 siblings who remained some of her best friends through life.  Leora went to the Lee Creek School through 7 th grade and graduated from Leadore High School.   Leora took to reading like a ‘duck to water’, as she’d say and became a bookworm at a very young age.  As a young girl she could never find enough books to read.  She tells the story of receiving a Bible for her wedding, and being desperate for something to read, picked it up.  While reading one day she felt such a feeling of peace and comfort come over her that she knew in that moment that Heavenly Father LOVED her.  She cherished that testimony, which sustained her as she served diligently as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

One fall, some of the girls from Leadore went down to Blue Dome to pick potatoes for a week and it was there that she met a cowboy named Jim.  On July 17, 1947, she married that cowboy and they eventually settled and lived most of their life together on a dairy farm in Mud Lake.  Leora was a wonderful mother, and her children were raised watching her work hard raising bum lambs and milking cows.  Leora milked cows for thirty years and her example of patience, kindness and hard work influenced all of her family and friends.

Leora’s philosophy of life is to just put your trust in God and do not carry grudges. She held true to that philosophy her entire life, apart from when she was working with cows- then all bets were off.

Leora’s greatest features where her bright eyes and happy smile. They never dimmed as she aged and will be missed dearly by all that knew her.

Leora is survived by her children, Kathy (Dennis) Dent Mesa AZ, Harvey (Cheryl) Nelson Terreton ID, Jerry (DeAnn) Nelson Grantsville UT, Mary (Tom) Wheeler Terreton ID, 20 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Egbert Nelson, her son, Calvin Dee Nelson, granddaughter, Rochelle DeAnn Nelson Olsen, her parents, and siblings.
