Lucile Taylor Lund Maloney, age 86, passed away on Wednesday October 4th 2006 at her home in Rigby following a brief battle with cancer. She has been under the loving care of her granddaughter Holly Maloney and Hospice Alliance.
Lucile was born on September 9, 1920 at the family home in Garfield, Idaho to Fern Wride Taylor and George Alvin Taylor. She was the second of four children to bless Fern and George. She grew up in Rigby and attended Rigby area schools. She graduated from Rigby High School in 1938 and then went to work for Reed Drug. For a time she worked as a Rigby City Librarian and Rigby City Treasurer. In 1968 she started working as a secretary at Midway Junior High School and continued there until her retirement in 1985.
In July of 1941 she married Glen Janus Lund. He died in a heavy equipment accident on March 1, 1949. She married George Maloney on September 6, 1951. They lived in Rigby until 1959 and then moved to Menan where they lived for 34 years. They moved back to Rigby in 1993. George died in December of 1994.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings in the church throughout her life in the various auxiliaries of the church. One of her favorites was working in the Youth Center at the Idaho Falls Temple.
She was very involved in community service through the local Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority chapter, being a founding member and active in the chapter throughout her life. She was also a longtime member of the local TOPS Club. She enjoyed her activities with the ladies in the The Red Hat Society and playing Canasta with her good friends.
Survivors include her children Brad Lund (SuZann) of Idaho Falls, Craig Lund of Federal Way, Washington; Michael Maloney (Kathy) of Rigby; Patrick Maloney (Rene) of South Jordan, Utah; Merri Ann Weaver (Dennis) of Rigby, 22 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Mary Lou Evans of Ririe, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Helen Anderson and her brother Max Taylor.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday October 7th 2006 at 11 a.m. at the Rigby East Stake Center with Bishop Brett Olaveson presiding. The family will meet with friends on Friday evening October 6th from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Eckersell Funeral Home and at the stake center from 9:30 to 10:45 Saturday before the funeral service. Burial will take place at the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery.
