Lucile Schwendiman Jacobs Osborn, age 91, of Menan, Idaho passed away Sunday night, August 10, 2014
at The Gables of Ammon. Lucile was born on April 29, 1923 in Newdale, Idaho to Rudolph and Clara Frances Schwendiman. She was the seventh of eight children. She grew up in Newdale, Idaho on her father's farm during the Great Depression. Lucile's greatest passions were music, playing the piano and organ, chocolate and collecting shoes. Her motto was, “You can never have enough shoes . . . or chocolate.” Lucile was also known for her talents and skills in creating many delicious homemade meals and bread.
Lucile attended Sugar Salem High School. She met her eternal companion during her high school years while taking music lessons from her future father-in-law, T. Leo Jacobs. At the age of 17, she married her sweetheart, Joseph Pershing Jacobs on June 6, 1940 and was sealed on October 9, 1940 in the Logan LDS Temple for time and all eternity. Lucile and Pershing began their life together in Tooele, Utah. Lucile then graduated from Tooele High School. Life was great. Life became sweeter and more fulfilling when Nikki Jean was born on December 2, 1941 (a few days before the bombing of Pearl Harbor and WWII). They lived in Tooele for 4 years; then moved back to Newdale to help her father with the farm. Right after settling in, Pershing was drafted into the services. Life was stressful. Two more children joined the family, Richlan Pershing on November 27, 1945 and Dayna Mae on June 25, 1947. When the Atomic Energy Commission started in Idaho Falls, Pershing had the opportunity to work there; so they moved to Idaho Falls. Soon they wanted to be out of town and settled in Menan, Idaho in 1959. Another child then came to the family, Jetta Lu, on April 30, 1965.
Lucile enjoyed going to Salt Lake City for many years to attend General Conference with her family. She also enjoyed her travel van and the many trips she went on. The highlight of her life was when she was blessed with the opportunity to spend one winter in Hawaii to help build churches for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and to work on the Hawaii LDS Temple.
While her most important and valued job was raising her children, Lucile also taught piano lessons for many years to any and all who were willing to learn. She also transported special needs children to Special Education Classes in Idaho Falls. By doing so, she had many opportunities to attend the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
Lucile was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many different callings including: Primary Stake Board, Young Women President, Stake M.I.A., Relief Society Presidency, Compassionate Service Leader, Spanish Extraction Program and played the piano for all the different church meetings. She also played for funerals, weddings, programs, and anything else that needed an accompanist or music entertainment. Lucile is well known for playing the piano and organ in Sacrament Meeting.
On September 17, 1984, tragedy struck when Pershing passed away of a sudden heart attack. Life was difficult. Although nine years later, through a mutual friend, Lucile met Jasper Berlin Osborn of Escalante, Utah. After corresponding to each other back and forth some 500 miles, they married on October 21,1993. Life was great again. But as old age and poor health creeps up on all of us at one point or another, Berlin passed away on June 25, 2008. Lucile continued to live in Menan until her own health declined; moving then into an assisted living facility.
Lucile lived in her big rock house for 53 years.
Lucile leaves behind a legacy to family and friends who will remember her for her beautiful heartfelt music, all her hard work, her devotion to the gospel and her sweet angelic personality.
She is survived by her children: Nikki Jean Mobley of Menan, Idaho and Jetta Lu Jacobs of Idaho Falls, Idaho; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and 2 step great-grandchildren; as well as 2 brothers.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, Rudolph (1955) and Frances Schwendiman (1963); five siblings, Madeline, Clara May, Elmer, Wayne, and Donna; first husband, Pershing Jacobs (1984); second husband, Berlin Osborn (2008); son, Richlan Jacobs (2003); daughter, Dayna Jacobs (2013); son-in-law, Vernnon Mobley (2002); one grand son and two great- grand daughters.
