Lucille Hansen

Lucille Waters Hansen, 92, of Rexburg, died May 20, 2009, at the Rexburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born June 20, 1916, in Rigby to Elmer Evan Waters, and Melbie Ormond Waters. She attended schools in Rigby, graduating from Rigby High School, and then continued her education at Ricks College. On October 26, 1934, she married George Franklin Mattson, in the Salt Lake City, LDS Temple. He preceded her in death. Together they lived in Rigby and worked on the family farm. Later they moved to Moses Lake, WA. She worked as a secretary for Boeing Flight Center, a law firm, and Moses Lake School District she also worked as a full time realtor in Moses Lake. After moving to Boise she worked as a secretary for Boise State College. She then moved to St. Anthony where she worked for Targhee National Forest in the supervisor’s office. On November 1, 1974 she married Jewel Neils Hansen, in the Idaho Falls, LDS Temple. Lucille was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; she served in many positions but particularly enjoyed working with the youth. She was also a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers for many years. She was President of the Moses Lake Association of Educational Secretaries in Washington State. Lucille enjoyed writing poetry, (of which she had several published) quilting, gardening, farming, outdoor activities and traveling. She is survived by a daughter, Marjorie (George “Bud”) Huth, of Show Low, AZ, sons, Vaughn (Pam) Mattson, of Baker City, OR, Lyle (Diane) Mattson, of New Port, OR, Lynn (Pat) Mattson, of Show Low, AZ, a sister, Laura Ellis, of Ammon, brothers, Delbert (Harriet) Waters, of Jerome, Dale (Norma) Waters, of Richland, WA, and 9 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, 2 brothers, 1 sister, and 1 grandson. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main St., Rigby. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery, under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
