Luella Bird Ricks, 80, of Milo, died Friday, December 18, 2009, at Parkwood Meadows Assisted Living, in Idaho Falls.
She was born April 22, 1929, at her Grandparent’s home in Garfield, Idaho, to Warren Bird and Rozella Cook Bird. She attended Milo Grade School and Rigby High School. She worked hard, living on a farm and being the 2nd child of 9. She enjoyed the results of her work all of her life. On July 19, 1946, she married Richard “Dick” Ricks in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. During her life, she and Dick made their home in Shelton, Idaho Falls, Ammon, Mud Lake and Milo.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved her life as a member of the church. She served in many positions in the church, until the last few years.
She lived a full life. Everything she did, she did well. She loved gardening, growing vegetables, and beautiful flowers, canning from her garden, quilting crocheting, sewing, playing the guitar, singing, and being a great homemaker. She was a wonderful wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother and friend.
She enjoyed living at Parkwood Meadows assisted living center. And her family extends their gratitude to both Parkwood Meadows and Creekside Hospice for their loving care.
She is survived by her children, Linda Cheney, of Boise, Lynn Ricks, of Mesa, AZ, Gary (DeAnn) Ricks, of Clark, Larry (Mary Ann) Ricks, of Menan, Sisters, Alice (Lyle) Farnes, Nell (John) Anderson, Lu (Ted) Berrett, Naoma (Jim) Gazdik, Sister-in-law, Shirley Bird (Alvin, brother, deceased), Brothers, Roy (Phoebe) Bird, James (Shirlene) Bird, Lewis (Kathleen) Bird, 4 children 21 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; Richard, 2 sisters, and a brother; Alvin.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 24, at the Milo LDS Church, with Bishop Brian Cook, conducting. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 West Main Street, Rigby, and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to services, at the church.
Burial will be in the Milo Cemetery, under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
