Lyle Dean Sloan

May 8, 1948 — August 7, 2018

Lyle Dean Sloan, 70, of Rigby Idaho passed away at home on August 7, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Culver City, California on May 8, 1948, the second of four children to Paul Alexander Sloan and Doris Magdalene Johnson Sloan. Lyle spent most of his childhood in Henderson Nevada, with much of his free time at Lake Mead. He enjoyed swimming, water skiing, and fishing. There were many nights Lyle and his older brother and best friend, Paul, would spend at Lake Mead. Their mom would drop them off in the morning and return the next day to retrieve them, usually unscathed. Lyle graduated from Basic High School in 1966 where he played football, wrestled, and ran track. In 1968 Lyle married Bette Coen and they had two daughters Amelia (Amy) Louise Sloan and Sara Jane Sloan. They later divorced and Lyle found himself a single dad of two young girls. He said his life changed the moment someone else’s needs became more important than his own.  Lyle always put being a dad above anything else.  On April 4, 1970 Lyle married the love of his life, Frances Coralie Henderson, in Henderson, Nevada. During that time, he was in an apprenticeship at Stauffer Chemical as a pipefitter. During his apprenticeship, Lyle and Frances welcomed a son, Paul Henry Sloan.  In February of 1973, Lyle and Frances moved to Idaho and added two more girls to the family, Tana Magdalene Sloan & Jennifer Rebecca Sloan. Lyle worked as a Pipefitter and Planner at the Idaho National Laboratory for 38 years, retiring in 2011. He served as a Union Representative for over 20 years and always supported worker’s rights. Lyle supported his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in all of their actives and programs.  Lyle loved watching high school basketball, bowling, horses, hunting, and camping. His passion was fishing and he loved being on the river. He looked forward to taking his wife on lunch dates several times a week. Even while he was sick and not feeling well, it was important to him they have that time.  He loved his family and was a great example to them. He will truly be missed by many. We know he is fishing today in heaven, healthy and happy.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Sloan of Rigby; daughters, Amy (Hal) Gamett of Ririe, Sara (Todd) Landon of Rigby, Tana (Larry) Hunter of Greenleaf, and Jennifer (Clint) Barry of Rigby; son Paul (Molly) Sloan of Portland, Ore; brothers Paul (Sherry) Sloan of Idaho Falls, Mike Sloan of Texas, sister; Cheryl Allen of Blackfoot; 11 grandchildren, Patrick, Joe, Lyndi, Alexandria, Adam, Skyler, Zachary, Savanna, Autumn, Connor, & Beren, and 7 great grandchildren; Paysen, Deacon, Josslyn, Dawson, Camila, Victoria, and Sawyer. He was preceded in death by his parents; newborn sister, Patricia, and grandson, Jack.
