Lyle Dean Taylor

Lyle Dean Taylor 84, of Grant, Idaho passed away September 14, 2010 in Rigby, following a courageous battle of an infection. He was born August 10, 1926 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to LaVaughn Leo and Alice Severson Taylor where they resided in Grant. He attended school in Grant until the 8th grade and then graduated from Midway High School. In October of 1944, he was inducted into the United States Navy and served on the USS SARITA until he received an honorable discharge in Bremerton, Washington on June 26, 1946. Lyle married Lois Kinghorn on March 26, 1947 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They are the parents of two daughters and one son. He was a successful businessman and cattle rancher. He became partners in the Lewisville Produce potato warehouse for over thirty years. In 1980 Lyle purchased a warehouse in Rigby which is now known as Taylor Produce. His love for cattle and spending quality time at his Kilgore Ranch was evident right up to his last days. He has served two separate six year terms as a member of the Board of Directors of the Idaho Grower Shippers Association and was President in 1971. He was also appointed to serve as a member of the Idaho Potato Commission in 1973, serving two terms and also served as chairman and was recognized for his service to the State of Idaho with a Certificate of Recognition. In 1993 he was selected by the Idaho Growers Shippers association as “Russet Aristocrat”. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Eastern Idaho Agricultural Hall of Fame for several years and was inducted into it in 1988. In addition to his service to industry and community, Lyle was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a Financial Clerk for fifteen years, a Bishop and Stake President. Lyle is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lois, one brother Martel (Claris) Taylor of Rigby, and Sharon (Ted) Zrelak of Goleta, Calif., one son Alan (Tami) Taylor, two daughters Marilyn (Stephen), Jensen and Barbara (Bryon) Mugleston, eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Boyd and Roger. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 18, 2010 at the Menan Stake Center. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., Friday evening, and Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to services, all at the Stake Center. Burial will be in the Grant Central Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Eckersell Funeral Home in Rigby.
