Mable Olive Bates

Mable Olive Bates, 97, of Idaho Falls, formerly of Rigby, died Thursday, October 6, 2005 at her home at Three Fountains in Idaho Falls. Olive was born on March 24, 1908 in Hyrum, Utah a daughter of Josiah Godfrey and Gunda Boletta Petersen Godfrey. She was raised and attended school in Ucon. Olive married Veral Veness Bates on November 2, 1925 in Rigby, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple on November 17, 1976. She worked for many years at the Idaho Department Store in Idaho Falls. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a longtime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxillary #2146 in Idaho Falls. Olive enjoyed cooking, sewing, and her grandchildren. Survivors include one daughter Joan (Marcus) Barnes of Rigby, and one sister Donna Cook of Idaho Falls. 10 grandchildren 55 great grandchildren 5 great-great grandchildren. Olive was preceded in death by her parents, husband Veral, daughter Betty Jean, five sisters and seven brothers. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 10, 2005 at the Eckersell Memorial Chapel at 1:00 p.m. The family will meet with friends prior to the service from 11:30 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. Burial will follow the services at the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
