Mae M. Freeman Larson

Mae M. Freeman Larson, 95, of Rexburg, died Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at Idaho Falls Health and Rehabilitation of incidence due to age and complications from an earlier hip fracture. She was born February 13, 1913, in Rigby, Idaho, to Jens Christian Gunderson and Karoline Louise Anderson Gunderson. She grew up in LaBelle, Idaho and attended grad school in the school her father built. She graduated from high school in Rigby. She married Derril Herbert Freeman on January 16, 1933. They lived in Lyman for a short time, and then built a house in Burton on 20 acres they bought from his father. They lived there the remainder of their married life. He died November 10, 1971. She married George Larson December 29, 1980. They lived in Idaho Falls. He died and she moved back to Burton in 1988 where she lived until the time of her death. Mae was a very hard worker and gardening was her passion. She always raised a big garden and had beautiful flowers. She could always be found outside in the summer weeding, watering, pruning, and harvesting. She did this until just two years ago when her health did not allow her to do as much as she wanted. In her younger years, she enjoyed sewing and would make quilts for her grandchildren. She especially enjoyed spending time with her sisters. They would get together and have pie parties. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She is survived by her son, Mel (LaKauna) Freeman of Burton, and her daughter Shirley Scott of Kearnes, Utah, her sister, Eileen (Robert) Carrieer of Mountain Home, Idaho, fourteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, six sisters, two brothers, a son-in-law, Dee Scott, and a grandson. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 14, 2008, at Burton 1st Ward Chapel, with Bishop Robert Hodgan, conducting. The family will visit with friends from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. the day of the service at the Church. Burial will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery, under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
