Mardene Harker

Mardene Bond Harker, 79, of Ammon, passed away after a valiant fight with Parkinson's disease, Thursday, February 19, 2009, at her home. She was born January 26, 1930, in Heber City, Utah, to William Joseph Bond and Hazel Thomas Bond. She was raised and attended schools in Heber and Duchesne, Utah, graduating from Wasatch High School as valedictorian of her class. She continued her education at Ricks College and graduated with an Associate in Arts and Sciences degree in 1995 at the age of 65. On March 27, 1953, she married Eldon David Harker in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in every organization in the church including Relief Society President of the Lewisville 1st Ward, the Primary Association, Scouting, as a Den Mother for several years, Sunday School Teacher, and as a volunteer in the Idaho Falls Temple for five years. She also served four LDS missions with her husband; one to Calgary, Alberta, Canada and three to the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah. Mardene enjoyed genealogy, quilting, cross stitching, and was an accomplished seamstress; she enjoyed sharing and teaching these talents with her family. She is survived by her husband Eldon, of Ammon, daughters, Denese (Dave) Hertz, of Ammon, Yvonne (Bracken) Webb of Idaho Falls, Annette (Kim) Lewis, of Idaho Falls, Susan (Charles) Ellis, of Nampa, sons, Richard Alan Harker, of Rexburg, Ronald Brent (Tammy) Harker of Rexburg, Douglas Eldon (Heidi) Harker, of Idaho Falls, 28 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 sister, 2 brothers; one is her twin, and one grandson. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 23, 2009 in the Ammon Stake Center, 2055 S. Ammon Road, with Bishop Brian Hobbs, officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Lewisville Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
