Martha “Martie” Latrell Johnson, 73, of Rigby, died at her home Saturday, March 15, 2008. She was born November 29, 1933 at Lakeland, Florida a daughter to James Floyd Sadler and Verna Kathryn Lawhern Sadler. She attended schools in Lakeland, Florida and earned her LPN from Eastern Idaho Vocational Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho. She married Nyman Dale Johnson December 31, 1967 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She worked at Parkview Hospital and Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls and after retiring from the hospital she worked at Rexburg Nursing Center in Rexburg. She worked in nursing for 30 years. She was a member of the Methodist Church and during the Teton Dam Flood she and her husband were involved in the Helping Hands Club. She liked crocheting, cooking, gardening, Christmas decorating, making candy, working with the Alzheimer’s Patients. Her favorite flower was the Yellow Rose.
She is survived by her husband Nyman Dale Johnson of Rigby, five daughters, Linda Swinehart of Rigby, Debra Steele of Rigby, Verna (Warren) Coderre of Saugus, California, Mary (John) Hansen of Idaho Falls, and Ver Dale (Scott) Logan of Briant, Texas, one son David Paul (Connie) Johnson of Rigby, 24 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three grandchildren, one step son Van Johnson and her father-in-law Dale Johnson.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 20, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby with Pastor Steve Young officiating. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery.
