Martin Harris

March 23, 1921 — June 13, 2014

Russell Martin Harris, age 93 of Rexburg passed away Friday, June 13, 2014 at his home. He was under the care of Solace Hospice. Martin was born March 23, 1921 to Cora May Killian Harris and Russell Walker Harris in Lewisville, Idaho. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Southern States Mission. On January 28, 1943 he married Dora Hirschi in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She preceded him in death. They lived in Kilgore, Idaho; Mud Lake, Idaho; Stevensville, Montana; and Salem, Idaho, where they farmed and ranched. Martin served in various callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including High Counselor, Young Men’s President, Stake Missionary and he was a High Priest. They had two sons, Martin David (Ula) Harris and Lyle (Janet) Harris, who are both deceased; and four daughters, Corene (Larry, deceased) Buhler, Ilene (Greg) Dunn, Debra (Ed) Herbst, and Peggy (Dennis) Dye. He married Carolee Bair in November of 1984 and was stepfather to nine more children; Trish Fielding, Delynn (Terri) Summers, Alan (Stephanie) Summers, Glenna (Kevin) Hudman, Paul (Tonya) Summers, Todd (LeeAnn) Summers, Scott (Sherry) Summers, Linda (Glen) Robertson and Laura (John) Salzman. Including both marriages he had 64 grandchildren, 111 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Martin and Carolee served in many callings together including a mission to Roanoke, Virginia, and Columbia, South Carolina; and also served in the Provo, Utah Temple. He loved horses, elk, hunting and sports, especially BYU (Ricks) Football. When he passed away, he still bore the strong testimony of his second great grandfather, Martin Harris; The Book of Mormon is true. He will be sorely missed. The family expresses sincere appreciation to Solace Hospice and Premium Choice Home Health for their kind care. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at the Rexburg 3rd Ward LDS Chapel, 345 South 3rd West, with Bishop Tom Rane conducting. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Monday at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main Street, Rigby, and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Following funeral services he will be laid to rest in the Lewisville Cemetery. Services are under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
