Martin Anthony “Tony” Newton, Sr., age 76, of Rigby, Idaho, passed away on June 7, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and devotion to his family.
Born on July 8, 1949, in Hollywood, Maryland, Tony lived a life defined by resilience, courage, and unwavering commitment to those he loved. At the age of 19, he was drafted into the United States Army in 1969, where he proudly served his country during the Vietnam War until 1971. Following his service in Vietnam, he was stationed in Korea and later in Panama.
In a reflection of his independence and adventurous spirit, Tony rode his Harley-Davidson motorcycle from Panama to Fort Belvoir, Virginia. He continued his military service until 1976, when he was honorably discharged.
During his military career, Tony earned numerous commendations, including the National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal with 60 Device; Army Commendation Medal (1st Oak Leaf Cluster); Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea); Air Medal (2nd Award); Air Crewman Badge; and Good Conduct Medal (2nd Award).
Following his military service, Tony continued his lifelong dedication to supporting those who serve as a Warfighter with U.S. Army Aviation at the Night Vision & Electronics Sensors Directorate at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, where he worked for 35 years.
Tony raised his family in Spotsylvania, Virginia, where he created a home grounded in love and resilience until the passing of his first wife, Donna Newton. In his later years, he made his home in Rigby, Idaho.
Tony was a proud and devoted father, grandfather, and friend. He also found joy in assisting his wife with Idaho Rescue, Shelter, and Transport Network, supporting efforts to care for and help animals in need.
He will be remembered for his strength, his love, and the way he always showed up for his family.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Donna Newton; his grandson, Quentin Newton; and his cherished pet, Lord Duncan Newton.
He is survived by his loving wife of 12 years, Shelly Newton; his children, Sativa Newton, Heather Dishman, Carrie Jerman, Tammy Pavey, Holly Newton, and Kody Newton; as well as 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
