Marva Sundberg Nelson, 83, of Rigby passed away Sunday, December 4, 2011, at her son’s home in Ammon.
She was born April 16, 1928 in Salt Lake City, Utah the daughter of Guy Q. Sundberg and Wanda Ovard Sundberg, Marva grew up and attended schools in Holladay, Utah, and graduated from Granite High School in 1946. She married Calvin Alexander Nelson May 26, 1948 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple; to this union they added 6 children. In 1968 they moved to Rawlins, Wyoming and ten years later they moved to Rigby where they lived for 30 years. In 2006 she moved to Ammon to be cared for by her son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Nancy Nelson.
Marva was an active member of the L.D.S. Church where she served in many callings, including Relief Society President and served a mission to the Idaho Falls Visitors Center. She worked as a store manager for Woolworth. She enjoyed horses and sports, especially softball and was an excellent softball pitcher. She also enjoyed teaching her grandchildren to bake and was an excellent seamstress. She loved to sing, and sang with the Rigby Chansonettes for several years. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters, Vicki (Charles) Bownds, of Rigby, Patricia Loveland, of SLC, Utah, Shauri (Tom) Greenwood, of Downey, Idaho, sons, Michael Nelson, of Rigby, Jeff (Nancy) Nelson, of Ammon, Brad (J.Q.) Nelson, of Benton City, Washington, brother, Ralph Sundberg, of San Diego, 21 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 1 sister, 4 brothers, and 1 great-grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 9, 2011, at the Rigby South LDS Stake Center, 106 N. 3800 E., Rigby, with Bishop George Olaveson officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Friday, prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery, under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel.
