Marven Alma Wade

Marven "Mike" Alma Wade; 80 of Idaho Falls, Idaho died Sunday, April 20, 2008 in Idaho Falls after a long battle with cancer. Marven was born November 8, 1927 in Malad, Idaho, the son of Lawrence Bertram Wade and Florence Pearl Bunderson Wade. He was the fourth of twelve children who were raised on a ranch. He attended schools in Malad and graduated from Malad High School. He participated in track, boxing, and football and earned Letters in both boxing and football for two years. He joined the Navy in the V-5 Pilot Training Program and was sent to Butte, Montana to attend college at the Montana School of Mines. He was discharged in August 1946. After his military service he went to college at Idaho State University to become a pharmacist. After one semester he changed his study course to Chemistry/Education. He earned a Bachelors Degree at Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho and then a Masters Degree in Chemistry from the University of Nevada-Reno. His Masters thesis involved analyzing samples from cattle and range grass throughout the state. This work was published in Volume 33, 793 (1961) of the Journal of Analytical Chemistry. He presented this work at the Annual Chemical Society Meeting in New York City in 1960. He was also co-author on several papers published in Animal Nutrition Journals. He worked for the Atomic Energy Commission in Idaho Falls. While working at the "Site" he published several papers. Much of the research was published in Analytical Journals and presented at Technical Society Meetings. He accepted a transfer to managing the Remote and Service Analysis Laboratory. Much of the research he had done was developing methods of analysis for this laboratory. In 1975 he was also given the responsibility for the Radiochemical Analysis Laboratory and in 1984 he was given the responsibility for the Research and Development Laboratory. In 1988 he was given the responsibility to design a laboratory and identify analytical methods and equipment needed for the Proposed SIS (Special Isotope Separation) Project. Marven married Alice Berthalene McClanahan in Idaho Falls, Idaho on August 17, 1947. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on October 12, 1951. They had been married sixty years in 2007. She preceded him in death on December 7, 2007. He was ordained a High Priest in the LDS Church by the Apostle Harold B. Lee. His Church callings included Second Councilor in the Bishopric in his Reno ward, Ward Clerk in several wards, Assistant Stake Clerk in Reno, Young Men’s President in Idaho Falls, cub master, High Priest’s Group Leader, Executive Secretary to the Bishop, and several other callings. Marven is survived by his daughters; Carie (Gary) Woodhouse of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Peggy (Dennis) Greener of Idaho Falls, Idaho and Jodi (Caleb) Anderson of Lewisville, Idaho. His sons: Scott (Carol) Wade of Bremerton, Washington and Roger (Geneine) Wade of Layton, Utah. Marven’s sisters; Vera Frampton of Orem, Utah, Rosalie (Eugene) Colton of Chubback, Idaho, June (Jesse) Dredge of Kaysville, Utah and Afton (Wade) Quinlan of Mendan, Idaho. His brothers; Eldon (Dora) Wade of Snowflake, Arizona and Earlen Wade of Pocatello, Idaho. 19 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Berthalene, a daughter Cathy Marlene Wade and three brothers. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the Woodhaven Ward Chapel, 260 Castlerock Lane, with Bishop McNaught officiating. The family will meet with friends on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. And from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will follow the services in the Fielding Memorial Cemetery.
