Marvin Luke Burns, 85 of Menan, passed away peacefully Monday, June 23, 2014, at his home with his wife and family at his side.
Marvin was born August 28, 1928, in Mountainair, New Mexico to Burley Burns and Gladys Viola Brunner Burns; the fourth of 6 brothers and 2 sisters. He was raised and attended schools in Mountainair. Due to the Dust Bowl the family moved to Burley, Idaho when he was 8 years old, then later moved to Idaho Falls. At age 12 he started fulltime work to help support the family. At age 18 he married Helen Goebel, they had 4 children. They later divorced. On June 27, 1952 he married Shirley Colson Wilson; their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple September 2, 2003. Together they raised 7 children in Garfield and Darlington, Idaho. They were married for 63 years. Marvin worked in construction and as a mechanic for over 30 years. He owned and operated a Grade A Dairy in Darlington, and farmed in Blackfoot while raising his family. He was also a truck driver for 15 years. He and Shirley owned and operated their own company; Burns Trucking in Rigby. He retired in 1999.
Marvin was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved life and his family, along with all the chaos. He was a family man of many talents and trades; riding and raising Appaloosa Horses, riding snowmobiles, and anything he could do with his grandkids were among his favorites. Shirley and his family were his world! He was a loving husband, dad grandpa and brother and uncle.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley C. Burns, children; Delpha (Tony) Rushin, Bonnie (Doug) Denning, Ron Burns, Marvin (Elizabeth) Burns, Beth (Kevin) Klitgaard, Brian (Teresa) Burns, Brent (DeanNa) Burns, Siblings; Naomi Burns, George Burns, Howard Burns, Helen Walseth and Donie Burns, as well as 33 grandchildren, 66 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son; Jerry Burns, daughter; Sherry Lee Wilson, and brothers; Melvin Burns, Ernie Burns and Lonie Burns.
The family expresses their gratitude to Aspen Home Health; especially Rose Zundel for the kind care and compassion given to Marvin.
Funeral service will be at 11:00, Friday, June 27, 2014 at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main Street, Rigby. The family will received friends from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Milo Cemetery.
