Mary Ann Lenz Furness, 77 of Terreton, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2008, at her home.
She was born February 22, 1931, in Ashton, to Carl P. Lenz and Myrtle Anderson Lenz.
She attended schools at Squirrel Elementary, Madison, South Fremont, and graduated from North Fremont High School. She continued her education taking extension courses in Idaho Falls, and studied nursing at Ricks College.
On December 15, 1949, she married Harold R. Furness in Ashton; their marriage was solemnized August 28, 1953 in the Idaho Falls, LDS Temple.
She worked as a receptionist and secretary for Furness Bros. Feed for thirty years.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held several leadership positions in Relief Society, Young Women’s, and Primary. She regarded the less active as her dear friends. She was the local President of Republican Women and a Prominent Advocate of Anti-Gambling for Idaho. She enjoyed ceramics, handwork, gardening, and most of all, spending time with her family. Mary Ann gave a lifetime of service to family, church and community.
She is survived by her husband Harold of Terreton, Daughters, Mauna (Craig) Young of South Jordan, Ut., Luanne (Dan) Hale of Blackfoot, Cloeen (Kevin) Downs of Firth, Amy Furness of Salt Lake City, Ut., Laura (Blair) Mickelson of Corinne, Ut., a son, Dallas (Tammy) H. Furness of Terreton, a stepmother, Eva Lee Lenz of Rexburg, a sister, Nadeene Anderson of American Fork, Ut., a stepsister, Evelyn Garcia of Caldwell, two half sisters, Karleen Phillips of McMinville, Or., Anna Louise Hetzel of Wa., a stepbrother, Jay Lenz of San Antonio, Tx., eighteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at Terreton Stake Center, with Bishop Scott Blackham, conducting. The family will visit with friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main St., Rigby, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Church. Burial will be in the West Jefferson Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel.
