Mary Ellen Brucks Jacobson passed away suddenly at EIRMC on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, as the result of an injury due to a fall, at age 81.
Ellen was born on March 14, 1945, as the third and middle child of David H. Brucks and Hazel L. Elkington. The family consisted of one older sister and brother and two younger sisters. She was born at the maternity home in Rigby.
Ellen grew up on a small farm just east of town. She attended school in Rigby, graduating in the class of ’63. While in school she was involved in FHA and other school activities.
After graduation Ellen attended Idaho State University in Pocatello, studying Home Economics Education. She graduated in 1967 with a BA. While at ISU she met Richard Jacobson through the efforts of a cousin of hers. They were married on July 14, 1967, in Rigby and were sealed for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple.
To this union came four children, Heather (Kevin) Layton of Idaho Falls, Julia (Nate) Rice of Pocatello, Tyler (Natalie) Jacobson and Adam (Meranda) Jacobson, both in Rigby. She has been blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Richard L. Jacobson, her four children and their spouses, her brother Roger Brucks of Rigby, and sisters Linda (Tom) Janson of Spokane, WA, and Phyllis (Allen) Williams of Mt. Vernon, WA. She is preceded in death by her sister-in-law Janiel Brucks, her sister Barbara Quigley, her husband Merle Quigley and her parents.
Ellen was involved in community and church activities and was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
Graveside services will be Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery. A viewing will be held Friday, September 11, 2026, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Eckersell Funeral Home, 101 West Main Street, Rigby, Idaho. There will be an additional viewing Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Eckersell Funeral Home from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m.
