Mary Lou Thomson

Mary Lou Thomson, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, peacefully passed away in her home in Rexburg, Idaho, on January 10, 2015. She was born in Rexburg, Idaho on December 30, 1939 to Horace Wylie and Mae Della Hoopes. She enjoyed a lively childhood with winters spent in Rexburg and summers on the family dry farm in the Teton Basin. She married her high school sweetheart, Lynn Packer Thomson, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on June 18, 1958. After spending time pursuing Lynn’s education and military service, they established their home in Rexburg where she lived the remainder of her life. Together they have 6 children, 22 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. Mary Lou’s highest priorities in life were living the gospel of Jesus Christ and caring for her family. She also had many diverse talents and interests, including painting black and white photographs, sewing, machine embroidery, cake decorating, gardening, photography, appreciating nature, and lifelong learning. Even more, she had a gift for sharing her knowledge, wisdom, and experience with others to both enable and to lift them. She truly was an inspiration to those close to her and will be greatly missed by them. Mary Lou is survived by her husband, Lynn, her daughters, Deidre Newman and Sherri Wakefield, and her sons, David, Larry, and Scott. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 15, 2015, at the Rexburg Idaho East Stake Center (387 South 4th East). A viewing will be held there from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 14. The family will also receive friends from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the Thursday services at the church. Burial will be in the Sugar City Cemetery under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
