Mason Jacob Empey, 21 of Idaho Falls died Sunday, June 29, 2014.
Mason was born November 21, 1992 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Donald Keith Empey and A. Michelle Leavitt. He was raised in Idaho Falls, attended Idaho Falls High School, and graduated from Lincoln High School. He played Lacrosse for the Idaho Falls Eagles where he was affectionately known as “Tomahawk” and spent a fair amount of time in the penalty box to earn his nick name. He also played football for Idaho Falls High School. Following high school Mason worked at Greg’s Tire and Auto as an Auto Mechanic.
Mason, also known as “Hot Rod” was an avid outdoors man; he loved spending time with his family and friends camping and fishing. He especially loved to hunt and fish with his father, uncles, family and friends. He shot his first pheasant and deer only 20 minutes apart. Mason had a big heart, and was a friend to all. He enjoyed taking people under his wing, teaching them, and sharing with them his passion of hunting and fishing especially his knowledge of fishing lures. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his father, Donald Keith (Cindy) Empey of Idaho Falls, mother, A. Michelle Leavitt of Idaho Falls, sisters, KateLynn Empey, Zoe Kay Empey, Hailey Dineen, Taylor Dineen all of Idaho Falls, grandparents, Dan and Sue Gray of Rigby, Carla Empey of Shelley, Steve and Doris Crumley of Idaho Falls, and many aunts and uncles who he dearly loved, and his loving girlfriend, Samantha Wolfe of Idaho Falls.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, William Empey, Howard Leavitt and Andrea Leavitt.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to their local search and rescue.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Friday, July 18, 2014 at Trinity Methodist Church, 27 N. Water Ave. in Idaho Falls. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. prior to services at the church. Services are under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
