Maurine Elison Tolman, age 91, of Lewisville, died peacefully Saturday April 23, 2011 at her home in Lewisville, surrounded by her daughters.
Maurine was born December 24, 1919 at Blackfoot, Idaho to Marvin William Elison and Leone Coolbear Elison. She attended Blackfoot Schools graduating from Blackfoot High School. She enjoyed basketball and played for Blackfoot Junior High and High School girls basketball teams.
She married Wendell Levor Tolman December 3, 1946 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
She worked as a bookkeeper/secretary for Garrett Freight Lines, Cotant Trucking and C.C. Anderson Stores. She also, with her husband owned the Tolman Merc in Lewisville. They moved to Lewisville in 1958 after purchasing the store. She enjoyed riding horses, was an excellent seamstress and loved hand quilting. She donated many quilts to the LDS Church Humanitarian Aid, as well as sewed numerous outfits and quilts for her posterity. She was an active member of the LDS Church serving as ward and stake Relief Society President, and taught in the Sunday School, Primary and Young Women’s organizations. She served an LDS Mission with her husband to Cardston, Alberta, Canada Visitors Center. She also served as an officiator in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
She is survived by her children, Pamela (Richard) Jones of Lewisville, Jean (Kelly) Dick of Orem, Utah, Annette Tolman of Pocatello, Ellen (Mark) Fillmore of Rigby, Carol (Kevin) Jennings of Springville, Utah and Thomas Wendell (Shellie) Tolman of Yuma, Arizona. She is also survived by a sister, Naomi (Wesley) Pharis of Blackfoot, brothers, Doyle (Marion) Elison and Lewis (Donna) Elison of Blackfoot. She has 24 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Lewisville 1st Ward LDS Chapel with Bishop Val Rosenberg officiating. The family will visit with friends Monday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby and on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Lewisville Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
