Maxcine Weekes

March 21, 1922 — September 1, 2010

Ethel Maxcine Weekes, age 88, passed away peacefully in American Fork, Utah on Wed., Sept. 1st, 2010. She was born March 21, 1922 in Pocatello, Idaho, the youngest of four and only daughter of David and Leona Janson. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Melvin and Glen Mihlfeith and David Janson; her husband, Boyde and her son Todd. Maxcine was only married to Boyde for 10 years when he passed away in 1971. She is survived by her son David and his wife, Brenda and her grandchildren Austin, Madelyn, Aubrey, Jocelyn and Danielle of American Fork, Utah. Maxcine grew up in Burton, Idaho. She graduated from Madison High School in Rexburg where she played the clarinet in the marching band. She later graduated from Ricks College and afterward, put her marching to good use as she walked all over Rexburg selling Avon. It was another 18 years before she finally met her future husband. She met Boyde when she was at a dance. They danced for most of the evening. That was Oct. 10, 1960. The next day Boyde asked Maxcine to marry him. They were married Nov. 12, 1960 (a month and 2 days after they met). They sold the Burton home much to her dismay and moved to Rigby where she remained until her health made it too difficult. As a result of a serious car accident in 1948, her hip started deteriorating and she walked with a pronounced limp. This made it very difficult for her to get around. After Boyde died, she was left to raise her 2 sons alone. Todd was 9 and David was 8. She never remarried. She took Boyde’s death very hard and began writing poems and songs about him. She ended up writing dozens of songs and putting them to music on the piano. This helped her redevelop her talent as a piano player. She would play the piano which was handed down to her by her mother. Now her grandson, Austin, is teaching himself to play on that same piano. Maxine was a member of the LDS church and remained as active as her health would allow. Her family would like to thank the Rexburg Nursing Center and he Heritage Care Center for the excellent care they provided her. Funeral services will be held for Maxcine on Monday, Sept. 6, 2010 at 11:00 am at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main Street, Rigby. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Sutton Cemetery, Burton, ID, under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
