Maxine Susan Hope

February 8, 1929 — January 18, 2018

Maxine Susan Hope, age 88, of Idaho Falls, passed away Thursday, January 18, 2018, at EIRMC in Idaho Falls. Maxine was born February 8, 1929 in Archer, Idaho to George Lelen Weekes and Martha Lavon Galbraith Weekes, the most wonderful parents anyone could ask for. She attended schools in Archer and Rexburg, graduating from Madison High School.  While in high school she sang in the Glee Club, played baseball and basketball.  In 8th grade, she caught the attention of James LeRoy Hope as she out played everyone in baseball.  She was quite the dancer and mostly danced with her dad until LeRoy came along, then they became a dance team. LeRoy and Maxine started dating while in high school.  A year after graduating, they were married October 15, 1947 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They have been married 70 years. Maxine was a hard worker. Growing up on a farm she helped take care of the animals, worked in the fields and in the garden.  This continued as she raised her own family. She taught them to garden and was known to out carry the boys when it came to gathering firewood. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints she served in the primary, as secretary of the Junior Sunday School, as ward librarian for seven years, and as the girls baseball leader. With her husband, a Temple Mission for a year, and for 25 years a Genealogy Mission in extraction having to learn German and Latin.   She loved square dancing with her husband. They were members of the Prominade Square Dancing Group and danced with a square-dancing group out of Leslie, Idaho that preformed in Salt Lake City, Utah. She loved camping, snow machining, and anything else she could do with her family.  Jet skiing was her favorite, especially racing with the grandkids.  She was a great huckleberry picker.  She learned picking from her parents and has made sure the tradition was handed down by training the next generations of pickers.  In all, Maxine lived a full life. She is survived by her husband LeRoy Hope of Idaho Falls, four daughters: Myrna (Steve) Barnes of Boise, Glenda (Jay) Martin of Rigby, Gloria (Nate) Martin of Rigby, and Marlene (Tom) Wilson of Idaho Falls. Two sons: Neal Hope of Iona, and Shelby Hope of Boise, a brother Devar Weekes, 16 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, seven sisters, a brother, twin granddaughters, Charlie and Chelsie and a daughter in law, Vicki Foster Hope. Funeral services are Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at 11 a.m. in the Ammon LDS 8th Ward Chapel 2050 S. Ammon Road, Ammon, ID. The family will visit with friends on Monday evening from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 West Main Rigby, Idaho 83442 and on Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.
