Melvin Parl Jones

Melvin Parl Jones, 88 of Rigby, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by family and loved ones in the early morning hours of February 12, 2016. He was loved by all and will be deeply missed. He was born October 3, 1927 in Victor, Idaho to Elmer Jones and Eva Jemmett Jones. He was raised in the Teton Valley and attended schools there. He married his sweetheart, Ellen Joyce Bevan on June 22, 1949. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on March 5th, 1965. You could never find them without one another for the next 67 years. He served the City of Driggs for 21 years as City Marshall. Mel was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a very devoted husband and loving father. He loved spending time with his boys hunting and fishing. He taught his children to work hard and most importantly, to be honest. He was a hero not only in the eyes of his family but to all those that knew him. He is survived by his wife, Ellen Joyce Jones, of Rigby, sons, Rodney Glen (Sheila) Jones, of McCammon, Melvin Vern (Jean) Jones, of Rigby, Larry Ray (Joan) Jones, of Shelley, Roy Lee (Linda) Jones, of Tetonia, Brothers, Jewel (Pat) Jones, of Etna, Wyoming, Blaine (Claudia) Jones, of Shelley, Randy (Diane) Jones, of Boise, sister-in-law Sandra Jones, of Idaho Falls, 16 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Joyce Jones, Faye Taylor, and Connie Rogers, brothers, Gordon, Jerry, Ted, Boyd and Brent, grandchildren, Regina, Nicki, and Thad. Funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 West Main Street, Rigby. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Monday and from 10:00 to 11:15 a.m., prior to services, both at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Victor Cemetery.
