Merelene Yvonne Hanson, 71, of Rigby, Idaho died Sunday, December 14, 2003 at her home in Rigby.
Merelene was born May 31, 1932 in Hibbard, Idaho the daughter of Samuel Sommers and Grace Estella Rock Sommers. She attended school in Hibbard and graduated from Madison High School in Rexburg, Idaho.
She Married Donald Eugene Hanson on October 23, 1948 in Sugar City, Idaho.
She worked as a Lab Technician for Fresh Pak and Roger Brothers, for the Rigby School Lunch Program for 20 years and presently worked for Idaho Drug in Rigby. She was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Rigby VFW. She was instrumental in getting the Rigby Senior Citizens Center built. She served one two year terms and two four year terms on the Rigby City Council. She was a member of the LDS Church.
She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, fishing, doing crafts and shopping.
Merelene is survived by her husband Donald Eugene Hanson of Rigby, Idaho. A daughter, Donalene (Ray) Hammer of Austin, Texas and three sons, Doug (Tamra) Hanson of Rexburg, Idaho, Lorin (Barbara) Hanson of Littleton, Colorado and Aldon (Jeanett) Hanson of Rigby, Idaho. A sister, Dorthy Martinez of Thousand Oaks, California and two brothers, Sam Jr. (Bessie) Sommers of Idaho Falls, Idaho and Gail (Jean) Sommers of Rigby, Idaho. Sixteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Barbara and two brothers, Dee and Terrill Sommers.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 18, 2003 in the Rigby East Stake Center at 12:00 noon with Bishop David Briggs officiating. The family will meet with friends on Thursday, December 18, 2003 at the Rigby East Stake Center from 10:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Burial will be in the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Funeral Home.
