Merla Nelson, age of 90, passed away Saturday, at her home in Rexburg, on January 26, 2019.
Merla was born on January 25, 1929 in Burton, Idaho. She was the daughter to Andrew Anderson Nelson and Wilhelmina (Wilma) Margaretha Vanderwel Nelson.
She is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She worked as an elementary school teacher in Idaho Falls and in St. George, Utah.
She loved to garden, she would spend hours going through seed magazines and planning. Her flowerbeds consistently inspired, brought joy and added beauty to the community.
She created a lasting impression of love and kindness with those she taught in school, as well as all of us Grandkids, as she would call us.
She gave us so many memories, from how to settle an argument amongst siblings, crack a joke at just the right moment, and how to be the swiftest to escape her disciplinary actions while we played and got into trouble at the Homestead.
She taught us all the reward of hard work and a job well done.
She honored her family in so many ways and made her home an icon for all to enjoy.
She was witty, smart, and sharp as a tack.
We will miss her laugh, sense of humor, stories, as well as the joy and beauty that she brought into this world.
She is survived by her sister NellJean (Gaylen) Harris of Highland, Utah and her brother, Nylin (Diane) Nelson of Salem, Idaho.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and five brothers.
Graveside services will be held at Annis Little Butte Cemetery, Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at 12:30 p.m. under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
