Merlin L. Byrne, age 83, of Terreton, died at home Friday, July 7, 2006.
Merlin was born October 13, 1922 at Archer, Idaho, the son of Irvin and Ida Eulella Sutton Byrne. Merlin grew up and attended schools in Archer, and Rexburg, Idaho. He graduated from Madison High School. Merlin served with the U.S. Army during WWII. as an M.P.
He married Elaine Loris Johnson, February 25, 1955 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls L.D.S. Temple. Merlin was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed serving in the Temple. He lived and farmed in the Terreton area for sixty years. He served as president of the Owsley Canal Company for twenty years. He loved doing yard work and taking are of his cats. He especially enjoyed his family.
He is survived by his wife Elaine L. Byrne of Terreton; three daughters Sandra Byrne of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Jackie (Frank) Santos of Austin, Texas, Lorrie (Brad) Behrens of Lewiston, Idaho; two Sons Danny (Badama) Byrne of Terreton, Idaho and David Byrne of Boise, Idaho. He is survived by one sister Stella (Don) Watkins of Thayne, Wyoming, 20 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and one brother.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday July 11, 2006, at 1:00 p.m. in the Terreton LDS Stake Center with Bishop Jay Simmons officiating. The family will visit with friends at the Terreton Stake Center Monday evening from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Burial will be in the West Jefferson Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
