Michael Lee Mecham 74, left behind his physical pain and returned to his heavenly home on March 31, 2025. We have no doubt he was met on the other side by his parents as well as other family and friends that have gone on before him.
Mike was born February 23, 1951, in the Old Mackay Dee Hospital in Ogden UT. He was the oldest of 3 kids born to Max and Colleen Mecham. Being the oldest, he made it his mission to take care of his younger sisters by teasing them relentlessly. Dad was raised in Morgan but spent as much time as possible on his family ranch in Croydon. His youth was spent playing football, hunting and raising hell. Dad graduated from Morgan High School in 1969.
In 1971, Mike married Jane Christiansen and together they had 4 children (they were later divorced). Summers were spent camping (often in Yellowstone) and winters always brought his favorite holiday - Christmas! In 2007 Dad met and married Sandy Radford. After they retired, they decided to move to Rexburg ID where they found a home that gave him a great view of the back side of ”his” Teton mountains. He never tired of the view and often bragged to his kids about it. Dad & Sandy enjoyed camping and often took day drives through Yellowstone Park.
Dad took great pride in a nice yard, and it showed. Every house he lived in had a meticulous yard as he would spend hours puttering around the yard, adding new trinkets or moving things around. Dad was also a huge Raiders fan and one of his life highlights was getting to attend a couple of their games.
Dad taught us the value of hard work, working through adversity and to enjoy time spent with family. He had a great love of the gospel, and he had a testimony that families were truly meant to be together for the eternities. His greatest accomplishment was his kids and grandkids, and he loved them deeply - the only thing he loved more than his family were his 2 dogs Trix and Tash and overtime he grew to love his cat, Thunder.
He is survived by his wife Sandy, his kids Jason (Jody) Mecham, Traca (Todd) Wardell, Bryon (Marcy) Mecham, Casey (Kristi) Mecham, step kids Jason (Shauna) Merrill, Melissa (Steve) Campbell, Chris (Sindy) Tuck and Laura (Trevor) Peters, 27 grandkids, 8 great grandkids and his 2 sisters Laurie Hawkins and Cindy (Kim) Peterson.
He is preceded in death by his parents Max and Colleen Mecham and his great grandson Beckett Ivie.
A funeral service will be held Monday, April 7, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the Henry Fork Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (2001 North 3000 West, Rexburg, ID 83440). The family will meet with friends Sunday, April 6, 2025, at Eckersell Funeral Home (101 West Main Street, Rigby, ID 83442) from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. They will meet again on Monday, April 7, 2025, at the Henry Fork Ward Chapel from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Interment will be in the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery in Rigby, Idaho.
