Mitchel LeRoy Evans, 43, of Idaho Falls passed away Friday, May 29, 2015 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls at 3:55 a.m. due to complications from pneumonia. Mitch was born at Madison Memorial Hospital in Rexburg on February 12, 1972 to Larry S. Evans and Geraldine Fay Anderson Evans. Mitch was born nearly a month premature and battled cerebral palsy all of his life. When Mitch was only 2 years old, his family moved to Helena, Montana where over the years he participated in Special Olympics, winning several gold medals in different events. He could swim the entire length of the college swimming pool using the back stroke. He also rode horses, was a Boy Scout, and won wheelchair races. Later the family moved to Dillon, Montana where he graduated from high school. He then moved to Idaho Falls. He was a happy guy making many friends in the community. He was involved in programs at the Developmental Workshop and Transitions. He was lovingly cared for by care providers Angie Roach and Lola Harrigfeld and families in their homes for much of his time in Idaho Falls. Mitch loved getting together with his brothers and sisters as often as possible, especially on every holiday. He especially loved going home to his parents place in Island Park when he could, watching movies, playing video games and go out to dinner. Mitch is survived by his parents, Larry and Geraldine Evans of Island Park, brother, Kenneth Evans of Ennis, Montana, sisters, Debra Liedle of Missoula, Montana, Kelly Filer of Spokane, Washington, Valerie Schuh of Fort Collins, Colorado, 4 aunts, 4 uncles and several cousins. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at Eckersell Memorial Chapel 101 W. Main Street, Rigby. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Monday and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., prior to services, both at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Annis Little Butte Cemetery, close to his grandma and grandpa Anderson. Mitch was a testament to honesty, simplicity and purity. His smile would absolutely make your day. Services are under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
